A field report by Anna-Laura Polster

Anna-Laura Polster

Looking back on my first four months at ADWEKO, I can hardly believe how quickly time has passed. It feels like I’ve only just got my foot in the door, and yet I’ve already gained a lot of experience.

Junior Consultant in Finance, ADWEKO Consulting GmbH

How it all began

But let’s go back to the beginning: after completing my degree in business administration and financial services, I had to make an important decision about what to do next. My long-term goal of working in consulting was clearly defined, and so I came across ADWEKO during a lecture at university, a company that convinced me right from the start. Applying for a suitable position was therefore a logical step for me, and I am grateful to have been given this opportunity.

My start at ADWEKO was characterized by the Welcome Days and the Welcome Week, which gave me a comprehensive insight into the company and its various departments. From networking training courses and basic banking training to gaining access to the system, I was optimally prepared for my start. The first 1.5 weeks were also a great opportunity to get to know other newcomers and long-standing ADWEKO colleagues and to network.

After getting to know each other and settling in, I continued my work in the Finance department. Here, as at the divisional event in Innsbruck, I was warmly welcomed by the entire team and directly involved in the work. I was given my first tasks and was able to contribute my own ideas.

I was involved in our Commercial Banking, Content Management, Contract Management, Finance Academy and many other topics:

Commercial banking

In the thematic group, we deal with the topics of ESG and Credit & Financing. I was entrusted with various tasks in both areas. I attended many webinars on the topic of ESG, carried out research on scoring tools, created new factsheets and collected and developed content ideas for the coming year. In the Credit & Financing department, I was involved in the creation of slides for our delivery model.

Finance Academy

I am also a proud member of the Finance Academy, where internal training courses are offered by employees for employees. Here I am not only allowed to take part in the training courses, but also to help with the set-up and preparation. I really appreciate this opportunity to deepen my knowledge, contribute my own ideas and continuously develop myself.

Contract management

Due to my legal background (Bachelor of Law), I am also able to support Pia Streicher (Team Leader with a focus on IT & Information Security) in contract management, which gives me a completely new perspective on the work at ADWEKO. I am actively involved in this area, from the introduction of a new tool and new processes to support management in the context of contracts and the review of contracts.

Content management

I also had the opportunity to support my team leader Christina Lutz (Managing Consultant in Finance) in content management. My tasks included the comprehensive planning, preparation, implementation and follow-up of content planning appointments for 2024. We also worked together to develop ideas on how to automate the sending of reminder emails. These ideas were successfully implemented by our colleague Mike Feistel (Senior Consultant in Finance), so that all employees in Finance are now automatically reminded of the content they need to submit.

Other tasks

  • Project-related topics, such as familiarization with the project management tool JIRA and the SAP application FPSL
  • together with my colleague Deniz Deveci (Junior Consultant in Finance) to further develop and design the onboarding concept for new joiners in our division and the topic groups,
  • various training courses, such as Excel, project management and data governance training and
  • to moderate our monthly area call, to show and improve my presentation skills.

These varied insights have broadened my horizons and further strengthened my enthusiasm for my work at ADWEKO. My first months at ADWEKO were characterized by a learning curve, exciting challenges and tasks as well as a motivated team that supported me right from the start. I am looking forward to the coming months and to continuing to make a valuable contribution to the success of ADWEKO and its internal and external projects.
